Schools Serving Chevy Chase

Chevy Chase is served by two school systems, not one. North of Western Avenue the address is in Montgomery County and Montgomery County Public Schools assigns it. South of Western Avenue the address is in the District, and nothing on this page applies. What follows names the MCPS schools that serve the Maryland side as of August 2026, says where the dividing lines actually run, and points to the county's own boundary locator, which is the authority. It does not rate, rank or compare any school. Which school serves an address is a fact worth knowing before you write an offer. How good that school is is not a broker's judgment to hand you.

The schools that serve a Chevy Chase address

For the 20815 core of Chevy Chase, the high school is Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, 4301 East-West Highway in Bethesda. Chevy Chase Village, the Town of Chevy Chase, Sections Three and Five, Martin's Additions, North Chevy Chase, Somerset and the Village of Friendship Heights all sit in the B-CC cluster. Middle school is where the area first splits. Silver Creek Middle School, 3701 Saul Road in Kensington, serves the Chevy Chase Village, Town of Chevy Chase, Sections Three and Five, Martin's Additions and North Chevy Chase side. Westland Middle School, 5511 Massachusetts Avenue in Bethesda, serves Somerset and Friendship Heights. Elementary is genuinely split. Montgomery County's boundary data for the 2026-2027 school year shows the Chevy Chase core covered by two paired attendance areas, Rosemary Hills ES with Chevy Chase ES and Rosemary Hills ES with North Chevy Chase ES, while Somerset ES, Westbrook ES and Rock Creek Forest ES cover the western, southwestern and northeastern edges.

Where the lines run

The elementary line that matters most is East-West Highway, Maryland Route 410. In the county's 2026-2027 boundary data the divide between the Chevy Chase ES area and the North Chevy Chase ES area tracks East-West Highway on its diagonal run northeast from Wisconsin Avenue, across Connecticut Avenue at Chevy Chase Lake, toward Rock Creek. South of the highway is Chevy Chase ES, 4015 Rosemary Street. North of it is North Chevy Chase ES, 3700 Jones Bridge Road. On the western side, Wisconsin Avenue, Maryland Route 355, is the Somerset ES divide from roughly Bradley Lane north. South of there it is not: toward Friendship Heights the Somerset ES and Westbrook ES areas both reach east of Wisconsin Avenue, and the Village of Friendship Heights around Willard Avenue falls in the Westbrook ES area. Rock Creek and its park form the eastern edge; Rock Creek Forest ES, 8330 Grubb Road, covers the ground beyond it. Western Avenue is the southern edge and the end of MCPS.

The cluster, the pairing, and the programs that change the default

MCPS organizes assignment into clusters, which the district defines as geographically drawn attendance areas whose elementary and middle schools feed a particular high school. Chevy Chase sits inside a further arrangement that surprises buyers: a grade-level pairing. Rosemary Hills ES, 2111 Porter Road in Silver Spring, is a pre-kindergarten through grade 2 school. Children in both the Chevy Chase ES and North Chevy Chase ES areas attend Rosemary Hills for those years and then split to Chevy Chase ES or North Chevy Chase ES for grades 3 through 5, both of which begin at third grade. A household with a kindergartener and a fourth grader will therefore have children in two buildings by design, not by exception. Two processes override the default. Rock Creek Forest ES runs a Spanish immersion program entered by application and lottery rather than by address; its students continue at Westland MS, while the rest of the Rock Creek Forest area feeds Silver Creek. And the Change of School Assignment process handles transfers out of an assigned school; the 2026-2027 window closed April 7, 2026, and an approved COSA puts transportation on the parent.

What changed, and what is pending, as of August 2026

Silver Creek MS is itself the product of a boundary study: the Board of Education approved its attendance area in November 2016 and the school opened in 2017, moving the Chevy Chase and North Chevy Chase elementary areas out of Westland. Two things are live now. On March 26, 2026 the Board approved reopening Charles W. Woodward High School, expanding Northwood and Damascus, relocating Wootton to Crown Farm, and reorganizing secondary programs into six regions, all beginning in the 2027-2028 school year. Coverage of that study did not place B-CC cluster addresses among the reassignments, but MCPS has loaded 2027-2028 boundaries into its assignment tool, so check both school years for any address you care about. At the same meeting the Board launched a countywide elementary and middle school study that includes possible closures and consolidations. Phase one runs through 2026-2027, with a Board briefing on October 8, 2026, public sessions from late October into January 2027, and a decision expected in May 2027. Boundary reassignments follow, with changes taking effect in 2029-2030. MCPS cites declining enrollment as the driver.

What to do before you write an offer

Check the address, never the neighborhood. Chevy Chase attendance areas do not follow ZIP codes, municipal limits or subdivision names, and East-West Highway cuts straight through the middle of the cluster; two houses on opposite sides of it feed different elementary schools while sharing a mailing address. Run the exact street address through the MCPS School Assignment Tool below, and call the boundary line at 240-740-7725 if the answer sits close to a line or the property is new construction. Treat the school field on a listing sheet as unverified: it is typed by a person, not fed from the district, and no one warrants it. Even official-looking sources drift. The Town of Chevy Chase View's own FAQ names B-CC cluster schools, while the county's 2026-2027 boundary data places that area in Kensington-Parkwood ES, North Bethesda MS and Walter Johnson HS. That is not a trick question; it is a stale page, and it is exactly why the locator is the authority. Confirm before the contract, not after, and expect to prove residency at registration.

Why this page names schools and does not rate them

Naming which school serves an address is factual, verifiable and something a buyer is entitled to. Rating, ranking or comparing those schools is a different act, and it is not one this office performs, here or in any other market. Published school ratings track neighborhood demographics closely, and steering buyers toward or away from an area on the strength of school quality is among the most documented fair housing violations in the business. So there are no scores on this page, no rankings, no links to rating sites, and no characterization of who lives in one attendance area versus another. Forming a view of a school is your work, and there is plenty of material for it: visit the building, talk to its staff and its principal, read the Maryland State Department of Education's published data, and sit in on a PTA meeting. What a broker can properly do is tell you which building an address is assigned to, where the line runs, what is pending, and how to confirm it yourself.
