Belle Haven Schools

Schools Serving Belle Haven

Which Fairfax County school serves a Belle Haven address, where the elementary line actually runs, and how to confirm it yourself before you write an offer.

Belle Haven sits in Fairfax County, not the City of Alexandria, so its public schools are Fairfax County Public Schools rather than Alexandria City Public Schools. That much is settled by the city line at Hunting Creek. Which particular FCPS schools serve a given house is a narrower question, and the answer is not uniform across the neighborhood. What follows is what the district's own boundary locator returned for addresses across Belle Haven in August 2026, and how to check any address yourself.

Attendance boundaries change. The district's own locator is the authority — not a listing, and not this page.

The schools that serve Belle Haven

Belle Haven falls in the West Potomac pyramid, FCPS Region 3. For addresses checked in August 2026 across Belle Haven proper, Belle View Condominium, River Towers, New Alexandria, Belle Haven Terrace, Westgrove, Marlan Heights and Villamay, the locator returned the same three schools: Belle View Elementary School at 6701 Fort Hunt Road, Sandburg Middle School at 8428 Fort Hunt Road, and West Potomac High School at 6500 Quander Road. The high school sits inside the neighborhood itself, on Quander Road, sharing that campus with West Potomac Academy, Pulley Career Center and Quander Road School. Sandburg and West Potomac came back as the middle and high assignment for every address checked in and around Belle Haven. The variation is all at the elementary level.

Where the elementary line runs

Two elementary schools divide the area, and the line runs through the middle of a subdivision rather than around it. In Bucknell Manor the boundary follows Duke Drive. Duke Drive itself and the streets east of it — Columbia, Vanderbilt, Williams, Swarthmore, Wellesley, Cornell, Princeton, Cavalier — returned Belle View Elementary. Randolph Macon Drive, Radcliffe Drive, Roanoke Drive, Sweetbriar Drive and Kenyon Drive returned Bucknell Elementary at 6925 University Drive. On two streets the change falls mid-block: on Dartmouth Drive, 2202 returned Bucknell and 2104 returned Belle View; on Rollins Drive, 2208 returned Bucknell and 2109 returned Belle View. Further west, Bucknell Heights — University Drive, Oberlin, Westhampton, Mary Baldwin, Stanford, Temple — is Bucknell. To the south, Hollin Hills and Mason Hill are Hollin Meadows Elementary, still on a 22307 mailing address. All of those still feed Sandburg and West Potomac. Immediately north, in the Huntington area and ZIP 22303, the pyramid itself changes: Farrington Avenue returned Cameron Elementary, Twain Middle and Edison High. Elsewhere in the area the elementary line does not follow a single road, which is precisely why an address check beats a neighborhood assumption.

How assignment works in Fairfax County

FCPS organizes schools into pyramids: a high school plus the middle and elementary schools that feed it. FCPS lists eight elementary schools in the West Potomac pyramid — Belle View, Bucknell, Fort Hunt, Groveton, Hollin Meadows, Hybla Valley, Stratford Landing and Waynewood — all feeding Sandburg and then West Potomac. Elementary here is a K–6 configuration: Belle View's grade-level teams run through sixth grade, so the move to Sandburg comes after grade 6, not grade 5. Three things can override the default. Advanced Academic Program centers are assigned separately and depend on eligibility, grades 3–8; for Belle Haven addresses the locator returned Stratford Landing as the elementary AAP center and Sandburg as the middle one. Dual Language Immersion runs by lottery under School Board Regulation 3312: Fort Hunt Elementary's one-way Spanish program, K–6, uses a county-wide lottery, so a Belle Haven address may enter it, though FCPS does not transport students living outside the DLI school's attendance area. Groveton's two-way Spanish program is a school-based lottery, open only inside Groveton's own boundary. And West Potomac Academy, on the Quander Road campus, offers career and technical electives open to all FCPS students.

What changed in 2026, and what is still pending

On January 22, 2026 the Fairfax County School Board voted 8–3 to adopt the results of the district's first comprehensive boundary review in about four decades. The changes take effect with the 2026–27 school year, which began August 24, 2026, and reassign 1,697 students county-wide. This pyramid was touched: 32 middle school students moved from Sandburg to Whitman, and 54 high school students from West Potomac to Mount Vernon. None of the Belle Haven addresses checked in August 2026 returned anything other than Sandburg and West Potomac, but the edges did move, and that is the point. Changes phase in under School Board Policy 8130, Section VII: in a K–6 elementary, the new school is mandatory for rising K–4 students while students already in grades 5–6 may stay put; at a 7–8 middle school it is mandatory for incoming seventh graders; at high school, for incoming ninth graders. FCPS has said further neighborhoods remain under study with recommendations expected in January 2027, and boundaries are now to be reviewed every five years.

How to check a specific address

The FCPS Boundary Locator is the authority. Enter the house number and the street name without the street type — "Woodmont", not "Woodmont Rd" — then confirm the matched address on the next screen. It returns the elementary, middle and high school, the AAP centers, and the magisterial district and School Board members. FCPS updates it each July for the coming school year; as of August 2026 it returns 2026–27 assignments. For an address in a new development, FCPS directs inquiries to the Office of Facilities Planning Services at 571-423-2320. Check the exact address, not the neighborhood name and not the ZIP code: 22307 alone spans at least three different elementary attendance areas. Do it before writing an offer, not after. The school field on a listing sheet or a portal is unverified data typed in by whoever built the listing, it carries no warranty, and it is not what the district will honor at registration.

What this page will not tell you

This page names which schools serve an address. It does not rate, rank, score or compare them, and it does not link to sites that do. That is a deliberate position rather than an oversight. School ratings track neighborhood demographics closely, and steering buyers toward or away from an area on the basis of school quality is one of the most thoroughly documented fair housing violations there is. As a licensed broker in Virginia, Maryland and the District, the line here is a practical one: the factual assignment is yours to have, and the judgment is yours to make. Visit the schools, talk to the principals, read what FCPS publishes, and reach your own conclusions.

Before You Offer

Confirm the assignment for a specific address

School assignment turns on the address, not the neighbourhood, and a listing's school field is unverified. Artur can confirm it against the district record before you write.
